What should a complete financial plan include?

A complete financial plan should provide a comprehensive view of your financial life and serve as a roadmap for achieving your short- and long-term goals. Key components often include retirement planning, investment strategy, risk management, cash flow and savings analysis, tax-efficient planning, estate planning considerations, and wealth transfer goals.

At Independent Wealth Consultants, we take a holistic approach through our Discover → Plan → Act process, helping clients create personalized strategies that align with their unique goals, risk tolerance, and vision for the future. A well-designed financial plan should evolve with you through every stage of life.

What financial risks should I worry about?

Financial risks can come from many directions, including market volatility, inflation, inadequate retirement savings, unexpected healthcare expenses, disability, premature death, and changes in tax laws or economic conditions.

While it is impossible to eliminate risk entirely, a proactive financial plan can help address these challenges before they impact your financial future. We work with clients to evaluate their Risk Number® and develop strategies designed to balance growth opportunities with an appropriate level of risk based on their individual circumstances and goals.

How do I balance saving for retirement and saving for my kids' college?

Many families face the challenge of funding multiple financial priorities at the same time. While both goals are important, retirement savings should generally remain a primary focus because there are no loans available to fund retirement.

A personalized financial plan can help determine how much should be allocated toward retirement accounts, education savings vehicles such as 529 plans, and other financial objectives. By evaluating your income, expenses, timeline, and goals, we can help you create a strategy that supports your family's future while keeping your retirement plan on track.

How often should I update my financial plan?

Financial plans should be reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to reflect your goals, priorities, and life circumstances. In most cases, we recommend reviewing your plan at least once a year.

You may also want to revisit your plan following major life events such as a career change, retirement, marriage, divorce, the birth of a child, receiving an inheritance, or significant market changes. Ongoing reviews help ensure your financial roadmap remains aligned with your evolving needs and objectives.

How do I choose the right advisor?

Choosing the right financial advisor involves more than evaluating investment performance. It is important to find an advisor who takes the time to understand your goals, communicates clearly, provides personalized recommendations, and acts in your best interest.

As an independent firm, Independent Wealth Consultants offers objective guidance and non-proprietary investment solutions tailored to each client's unique needs. We believe the best advisor relationship is built on trust, transparency, education, and a commitment to helping clients make informed financial decisions with confidence.
